We’re pleased to announce that Shipham’s nickel aluminium bronze gate, globe and check valves will soon be available from stock in the US.
If you work anywhere near saltwater – shipbuilding, offshore platforms, desalination plants, naval fit-outs – this is one to keep an eye on.
Why nickel aluminium bronze?
Ask anyone who’s specified valves for a marine environment and they’ll tell you the same thing: seawater doesn’t forgive weak materials. Standard bronzes and brasses can hold up for a while, but nickel aluminium bronze – NAB to those who work with it daily – is in a different league. It resists corrosion and dezincification in saline and brackish water, shrugs off cavitation and erosion under turbulent flow, and still delivers the strength you’d expect from a much heavier alloy.
That combination is exactly why NAB has become the material of choice for naval vessels, offshore oil and gas installations, and desalination infrastructure the world over. It quietly outlasts almost everything else you could put in its place.
What’s coming
The range we’re bringing in covers gate, globe and check styles, cast in B148 C95800 nickel aluminium bronze, from ½” right through to 12”. Two pressure classes will be available – 150# and 300# – so whether you’re working on a lower-pressure or something with a bit more bite, there’ll be an option that fits.
We know from conversations with customers that this has been a gap in the US market for a while. Sourcing genuine NAB valves at short notice, in the sizes and classes projects actually need, hasn’t always been straightforward. Bringing Shipham’s range into our American stock is our way of closing that gap – and it’s a natural next step as we keep building out what we can offer customers on the ground in the States.
